19 Chicago Luxury Homes Sold in June, Totaling More than $30 ...

The Chicago luxury real estate continued to prove in the month of June that the ups and downs of the market are no match for buyers on the hunt for the perfect home. With 19 luxury homes sold (those priced at $1 million and up), total sales for the month?were $32.6 million.

Lincoln Park Known for Chicago Luxury Real Estate

The most expensive home to sell in June was on a chic Lincoln Park block known for its McMansions?Orchard street. If you?re looking for a mansion in the city of Chicago (a home built on one, two, three or more lots) and have a big budget, Orchard Street is one of the prime blocks in this neighborhood to scope out. Nearby blocks Howe and Burling are also at the top of the list for highly-desired streets in Lincoln Park.

While these blocks have a lot to offer on their own, there is also opportunity for luxury buyers to build a Chicago new construction home from scratch. If building a custom dream home in the heart of one of the city?s best neighborhoods is something you?re interested in, let me know and I can put you in contact with the appropriate people to make it happen.

Getting a Deal on a Luxury Home

One thing to note about the top homes sold in June is that despite these being multi-million dollar properties, there were deals to be had. The Orchard property sold at almost a $700,000 discount from the original list price.

I?ve said time and again that the best way to shop in this Chicago real estate market is with cash if you can afford it?this gives the buyer a lot of negotiating power to get a deal done and closed quickly. Or, if you?ve already lined up a mortgage and feel comfortable, it?s possible to eliminate?the mortgage contingency in the contract and obtain the mortgage after closing on the property.

Chicago Luxury Real Estate Sales in June

Starting with the priciest sale on Orchard Street, here?s a closer look at the top five luxury sales that closed in June:

1956 N Orchard St
Original list price: $5.999 million
Sold price: $5.3 million
On a double-wide lot of 50 x 124 feet, this mansion in Lincoln Park is one of a kind. With a limestone and brick facade, the grounds of this home are immaculate, with patios, decks, balconies and a large backyard. Inside are 12-foot ceilings, four fireplaces, a heated 3-car garage and a grand staircase. Spanning just under 10,000 square feet, this home boasts 7 bedrooms, a top floor rec room with second kitchen and great views of the city.

4420 N Paulina Ave
Original list price: $2.95 million
Sold price: $2.75 million
A gorgeous and one-of-a-kind home with more than 5,200 square feet and 6 bedrooms and 6 bath, this property features cathedral ceilings, a sauna/steam room, and lots more.

?

1112 W Wrightwood Ave
Original list price: $2.95 million
Sold price: $2.59 million
This home also features that highly sought-after combo for buyers: a large lot (this one is 33 feet wide) in a great neighborhood (this one on a great block in Lincoln Park). With four stories and 6,500 square feet, this luxury Chicago home has 6 bedrooms, extra-tall ceilings, great entertaining space, a home theater, potential guest suite, French-inspired garden and access ready to be built out for a roof deck.

2108 N Magnolia St
Original list price: $2.599 million
Sold price: $2.450 million
Generous square footage is another must-have for luxury buyers, and this home has it. Also in Lincoln Park, this home features a superb layout with 6 large bedrooms, 5.5 baths and showcases luxury down to the finest details: walnut floors, high-end finishes, a built-in espresso maker in the kitchen and a spa-like bath in the master suite.

842 W Webster Ave
Original list price: $2.295 million
Sold price: $2 million
A handsome brick vintage facade greets you on the outside of this home, but on the inside is an all new interiors with a highly upgraded kitchen, baths lighting, hardwood floors and more. With oversized rooms, a state-of-the-art home theater, office, exercise room and a roof deck, this home is the perfect picture of what Lincoln Park homes for sale have to offer.

As I?ve been seeing on the market for the past few months, homes with oversized lots continue to be coveted by buyers and move quickly on the market. Homes with that characteristic don?t last long.

Looking at these home sales can give buyers a great insight into what?s selling on the market, giving them negotiating power and a better idea of what you really want in a home. London 2012 Olympics
If TV broadcast tape delay and streaming restricted to pay-TV subscribers isn't entirely ruining your experience, the first week of the 2012 Games has started off with a bang. There's plenty of sporting action to go around and the world records have already started falling. Live coverage is early in the day for US time zones, while NBC is keeping some of the more anticipated events off TV and only online until its prime time airing later.

For viewers we have a few tips, like using Google to search Olympics + [sport] to get a minute by minute schedule of the events in your local time so you don't miss 'em on the live stream. Also, check your cable or satellite provider, most have expanded options to help you catch all the sports, while Cox and DirecTV are doing the multiview thing, Comcast has added Olympics specifics filters to its remote apps, and Time Warner Cable has added more channels to its streaming iPad app.
(All week, NBC channels and online)

Total Recall (Mind-Bending Edition)
The Paul Verhoeven / Arnold Schwarzenegger classic is back on Blu-ray and should be better looking this time around. So, why opt for this one instead of a ticket to the remake this weekend? Beyond the obvious reasons, it's also cheaper, currently listed at $7.99 on Amazon.
($7.99 on Amazon)

NFL Preseason
It's finally time for football again, and while it's just preseason action, we'll be ready to see the Saints take on the Cardinals Sunday night from Canton Ohio. Also worth checking out, the HOF induction ceremony Saturday night as DB Jack Butler, C Dermontti Dawson, DE Chris Doleman, DT Cortez Kennedy, RB Curtis Martin and T Willie Roaf take their place among the other all-time greats.
(August 5th, NFL Network, 8PM)

Meet Scott Eide: Health Fitness Specialist Chair | Minnesota School ...

Health Fitness Chair Scott Eide

Scott Eide knows how to sit still. He just prefers not to.

Ever since he can remember, he?s been a running, jumping, biking kind of guy. ?It
didn?t matter if it was football, basketball, tag, two-on-two baseball or bikes,? he says. He and his neighborhood friends were always outside and moving. ?We only had two [TV] channels,? he quips.

Eide has participated in?and pushed his body through??one end of the spectrum to the
other? where sports and fitness activities are concerned. A three sport athlete as a young man, Eide has also competed at the Master?s level in weightlifting?setting a few state records while he was at it?and the Master?s level in track and field. He?s competed in road races and is currently a duathlete (run-bike-run.)

Yet oddly enough, Eide doesn?t consider himself a competitive person. It?s more
about experimentation, he insists. ?Let?s see what my body does when I do this,? is the goal. How far can I reach?

?When you have a bad race,? he adds, ?it?s not about he or she beat me: it?s what
could I have done [differently]?

Eide recognizes that there is an obvious connection between his ?real? life and that
of his chosen profession. But rather than it being a direct causal
relationship, he sees ?one feed off the other.?

As an example, he sites his past work experience. A former strength and track
coach at both SCSU and the College of St. Benedict, Eide began weightlifting because of his students. As a coach he wanted his athletes to be prepared, so he put himself through the training they needed in order to succeed. This, in turn, personally motivated him to compete.

?In my positions,? he comments, ?I?ve always had keys to the weight room. My office
was three steps from the track. As a coach, it?s easy to be motivated.?

In addition, Eide has worked as a cardio-vascular assistant at the St. Cloud
hospital, giving him a medical view of the health and fitness world, and as a trainer at both Gold?s Gym and the YMCA. Choosing different modes of the field keeps him engaged, he says. He is continually educating himself, and this he funnels right back into his classroom.

He also hones his skills by presenting in professional settings, like a recent
appearance at ReJuv Medical in Waite Park. And although he demurs, ?I?m not really a kid person,? Eide volunteers in an after-school program with the University of Minnesota Extension at Bel Clare Acres, a low-income community in the area. He leads exercises and fitness games for disadvantaged children and considers it rewarding. Next up, Eide will volunteer at Rocori High School at an all-day weightlifting competition for area high school athletes.

And by the way, Eide?s influence doesn?t always fall so far from home. This weekend
he will be competing in a duathlon with his 14-year-old son Noah in Buffalo,
Minnesota. It is a race that they won last year.

And after that?who knows? But it?s a safe bet that Eide won?t be caught at home
watching TV.

Samsung Galaxy Beam projects into the UK. Phones, samsung galaxy beam, Samsung, Projectors 0

30 July 2012 10:27 GMT / By Stuart Miles

The Samsung Galaxy Beam is now officially available in the UK allowing those that want to buy the new phone, first shown in Europe at Mobile World Congress in February, the chance to beam their content on to a surface near them at any time.

For those not aware of the Android phone, the Galaxy Beam is a projector smartphone that can instantly create a 50-inch wide screen as long as you've got a space to project on to and a room dark enough to see it.

Measuring 12.5mm thick the phone, rather disappointingly for some, runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread, but is powered by a 1.0GHz dual-core processor comes with 8GB internal memory, there is microSD card support as well, and a 5 megapixel camera.

The Samsung Galaxy Beam can handle all of your?MPEG4, H.264, WMV, Xvid and DivX file types and even supports HSPA+ connectivity - rather handy for YouTube.

What are the Advantages of Psychology Therapy for Children?

by Nora Grin on July 19, 2012

Anxiousness, stress and depression are not only problems that are a part the adult?s world. At times very young children also suffer from psychological distress. However, unlike adults they are not aware of their inner world and find it hard to understand what they feel. Also, they can not seek help by addressing ?mental health? places and look for some kind of cure..

.

If your kid is suffering from tension, depression, anxiety or any other mental disorder, you should consider taking your child to a psychologist or some kind of mental treatment. A therapist can understand the thoughts and emotions of your little ones and also recognize why this kind of feelings have developed in the first place by talking to them. Chava Tombosky: Taking Action: Founding Filmmaker of 'Invisible ...

There are those times when we arrive at a crossroad in our lives when a particular place with a set of circumstances all point to a moment that we can decide to use our actions to set a course that has the power to make a difference beyond our wildest imagination. When film student Bobby Bailey arrived in Uganda in his early 20s to find stories to film, he never thought he would have ended up at one of those crossroads.

We all have crossroads that whisper our destiny and that position us in the perfect place to be able to create change for others, which inherently can affect positive change and outcomes in ourselves. In my search for finding meaning and purpose, I was blessed to have had the chance to interview Bobby and find out how he found the story that became one of the greatest movements of our generation. "We had no idea that Uganda was even a war zone. I was a kid, I got my news from MTV, what did I know." And yet, upon arriving in Uganda after a long day of experiencing tribal life and watching a woman eat corn with her fingers, a bomb exploded in the center of town setting off the reality that Bobby had indeed landed in a dangerous terrain with an even more important story that needed to be told. "Invisible Children was a film that was born from this "accidental" unforeseen trip.

One night as Bobby and his team were standing around during dinner time, thousands of footsteps were heard stomping through the center of town. These footsteps belonged to 50,000 Ugandan children fleeing for their lives from their smaller unprotected villages at night where they sought refuge to sleep in the bigger towns in an effort to avoid being kidnapped by a war lord named Joseph Kony and his Lord's Resistance Army (LRA). "If this ever happened in the United states, it would make the front page news. How was it that no one was doing anything about this?" A strong statement, that led Bobby and a team of other filmmakers on a mission to not only create a film but create a movement of awareness for thousands of children who had no hero to turn to, no hope to look toward. Bobby's ability to remain humble -- despite his collaborated past efforts, which has included raising millions of dollars toward helping these desperate children by mobilizing thousands of American teens into action to raise money to rebuild war-torn schools in northern Uganda and providing scholarships to African youth as well as being part of the team that created a film called "Invisible Children" that has gotten more than 5 million views world wide -- astounded me.

The question is, what would cause someone to risk their life at the tender age of 20 and go up against one of the greatest war criminals our generation has seen? Because of Bobby's efforts, 10 years ago, countless children have been rescued, and lives have been completely changed forever.

There were two character traits that Bobby embodies that struck me more than anything. Bobby loves telling stories, because he truly believes our stories can have the power to reshape our lives or G-d forbid, the opposite, destroy them, a responsibility he holds dear. He is driven by his idealism and his imagination. And at the same time there is a humility to his power and his ability to achieve the impossible. Sometimes we believe we are nothing, and therefore we do not even attempt to make a change. But to believe we are small somethings who can create a butterfly effect that matters, while remaining restless enough to seek more and push the envelope further despite success -- this is true humility. Bobby's thirst for knowledge of what drives mankind is the motor that allowed him to end up in a war zone with out very much thought to consequence. It is this motor that has fueled his success as a filmmaker, a story teller, a social activist and a brand consultant and that continues to challenge the status quo and inspire so many people.

To date, Bobby is no longer with Invisible Children, and although he is outside of those gates now, his thirst for truth and for the art of storytelling is no less palpable. When I asked him what was next for him, he said "I'm not sure. I believe there are a lot of programs we come up with in industrialized society. I still think we are stuck in a vision that is killing this planet, and we need new visions not just new programs. I want to create new myths that will lead to giving our youth a strong myth that inspires this generation. I am also working on helping brands build ideologies that reshape people's spiritual lives."

Bobby is clearly not short of vision and taking action. He is constantly in search for truth and purpose and this fuels his creativity in all areas he delves into.

When we become the storytellers in our own lives, then we can become the heroes that make them. But they don't happen by chance. They happen when we decide the crossroad we have ended up walking on can indeed become our moment to take action. We don't need to look around to see who else is going to pick up the pieces and make a difference, we can look inside ourselves and realize we have all that it takes to accomplish what is needed to make that change because we were put at that place at that exact moment that required our talents and know-how.

Today more than ever we have the power to find meaning and purpose in our own lives by looking at our own environment and opportunities that whispers the mysteries of our destiny.

Today, for me, the meaning of life means taking action.

Watch Bobby's interview and become part of "The Search." Learn more about our campaign to bring meaning and purpose to the world.

Three Reliable Ways To Find Jobs Abroad | business resources

There are many ways to find jobs abroad. You can search them through the newspaper and recruitment agencies. And a good addition to your job hunting strategies would be the use of all forms of media available today. Below are short discussions which can help you utilize the different resources under your nose.

Reading Newspapers

For many years, the newspapers have been a steady source of job openings for all types of employment seekers. They not only hold opportunities for local careers but also for international ones. It has been a common practice among newspaper readers to turn to the classified ads when they are looking for employment. Although this is appropriate, it should not be restricted to this page. In fact, those who wish to find a job abroad must read the international news pages as well. Besides giving employment leads in other countries, the general and economics news they provide can be helpful on your part come the time for job interviews.

Another bonus would be the chance to know labor rates and employment benefits in different parts of the world. If you have the resources, it would be more helpful to subscribe to the leading newspaper of the foreign country you are eyeing on. This way you can get all the direct information that you need.

Cooperating With Recruitment Agencies

Those who are after a more convenient way to find jobs abroad resolve to this. Services of recruitment agencies are sought by employment seekers and employers as well. Through time, the number of huge companies asking the recruitment agencies to look for the right candidates on their behalf is increasing every year.

Here are two reminders for you when dealing with recruitment agencies. First, do business only with those certified not only in your country but also in other countries around the globe. Next, ensure to complete all the requirements asked of you so that all your efforts will not be put into waste. It is always to your advantage that you do a little bit of research first before you try any recruitment agency.

Using Job Search Engines

The internet has changed the way the present generation seeks for employment. With the presence of various career sites, career boards online and job search engines, looking for work locally or internationally is now as easy as pie. What is good about them is that they are as reliable as the newspapers and the recruitment agencies which used to be the tried and tested ways to get employed in another country.

Full transcription of this week?s news update:

James Schramko here with an internet marketing news tips update.

What is the difference between an eBook and a white paper?

Well it?s pretty much the language we use for our target market for some kind of report or information that you get in a PDF format. So for enterprise industries and commercial markets, a white paper is probably the term to use. For mom and dad, you might be looking at a fast start guide or an eBook or a quick report. So you can use the right language for your market for the right document even if it?s exactly the same thing.

When marketing to verticals, you want to make sure you understand the dialogue of the market.

Now, what?s a vertical?

Well it?s an industry classification, it could be motor dealers, it could be kitchen renovation companies, it could be electricians, plumbers, pest controllers, accountants, you get the picture. So make sure you go into their industry, have a look at trade journals, get a magazine about it, read their advertisements, look at the yellow pages ads, look at a bunch of competitors? websites in that space and learn how they operate. And get a good feel about their problems, and their pain points and the common objections that keep coming up with every one of their customers and in particular, with their business because if you?re out there providing internet marketing solutions, you can either get the customer direct and then sell those leads to the verticals or you could work with the verticals and get paid on a fee basis to help them or some kind of partnership or perhaps you can even buy a business in those verticals and use your internet marketing skills to do them up which is something that I?ve done. I have a part share in a pest control company of all things and the deal is I improve their online marketing presence and we make more profit applying those things.

How many tools do you need to do this internet marketing thing?

I?ve posed the question to a friend of mine Lukey Luke Moulton on a recent podcast of InternetMarketingSpeed and we talked for about an hour going through all the tools that we could use. Some that I use and he used some that he uses that I don?t use. And I think you?ll find it great listening to discover what tools you don?t currently know about or which ones we?ve decided not to use and the reasons why.

I still think in internet marketing we have a very low variance of entry. I mean with just a simple camera and YouTube channel, you can at least get in front of a big audience. And a website these days is a great place to capture an email list. But those things start from just a few dollars per month for hosting, domain names are cheap. But then beyond that if you want to scale your business, if you want to get into the multimillion dollar mark and if you want to have a team you will need some more solutions. So we talk about which ones are good.

Traffic Grab #2 is on the way and it?s pretty exciting what I?m putting there and I think you?ll enjoy it. All FastWebFormula members will be getting access to the new Traffic Grab modules inside FastWebFormula. All Traffic Grab 1 members will be getting access to Traffic Grab 2 and when Traffic Grab 2 is finished then it will go on sale from TrafficGrab.com. I think you?ll find this is going to be an easier to use course than Traffic Grab 1 with the latest test data from my own lab. Pretty cool stuff.

So if you?re thinking of starting a podcast, there?s been a really good thread in FastWebFormula about podcasts and I?ve also done some interviews on other people?s podcasts. You might go and check them out in the media gallery on SuperFastBusiness.com, we?ve listed some of the podcasts that I?ve appeared on as a guest and of course the most recent ones I went on Dan Norris?s podcast and I went on the ILoveMarketing podcast with Joe Polish and Dean Jackson. It?s been getting great feedback, episode #77. Be sure to check it out. You?ll get a good feel for what is possible with a podcast in that iTunes Store. Podcasts are most definitely a part of Traffic Grab 2 because they?ve been absolutely critical points in my SuperFastBusiness empire growth. Podcasts are a great thing to do for traffic and for relationship building and for conversions.

Start A Podcast

Mature beats new

When it comes to websites, a lot of people including myself start out by buying a new domain. But the thing is you?re going to get a reasonably crappy domain buying it new. A lot of the fantastic domains are gone. You know the one word, the two words a lot of them are no longer available. But they are available, they are available second hand. And second I figured that out I started buying premium domain names like SEOPartner and SilverCircle. They weren?t just sitting there ready to buy. They were already gone but I was able to buy them for a reasonable sum and then develop them. And it brings that brand value to the table which I?ve talked about at other times.

Branding becomes popular

Branding is essential for SEO but it?s also great for things like podcast and for people typing in your brand. You will own the search phrases. So I just released a bunch of domains and mature websites from VREdirect.com already on the first night 12 of them got snapped up straight away because people recognize for the same price as building a small brand new website, you can get a matured website with indexed pages with fresh cache dates, in some cases with search positions already in hot markets. And you?ll also get backlinks to these sites. So I imagine that these people have picked up a bargain. They can probably develop them and put some marketing effort and some fresh content into them. Stick a name capture and some kind of monetization and the profits will rack up quickly.

I also sold one of my premium featured domains. So keep an eye out for that. There were around 6 buyers for that domain because it was like a business ready to go. I will put more on VREdirect.com so make sure you register for news updates for that particular website.

Why do we sometimes combine solutions? We might take an auto responder here and we might take a shopping cart there and then we splice them together.

Well when you?re looking to grow your business over the long term, you want to make long term decisions so I picked platforms that I think I can survive with for quite some time. That will do the things I need to do or most of the things I need to do. In this case I?m using Office Autopilot combined with Nanacast. When Office Autopilot probably could do some of the cart and affiliate functions, Nanacast has been my superior solution for that for several years and I think it?s going to continue to be strong. So I actually get extra power by combining them. And even though I have to log in to two places, I don?t have to log in so often and they both do their thing well. So it?s like when you buy a Mercedes Benz, the tires on that Mercedes Benz are going to be Pirelli or Continental or Michelin because they?re the best tires you can get. So sometimes it?s okay to mix components to get a better result.

Somebody in FastWebFormula had asked, what are good events to attend?

So I?ve posted some of the ones that I?m going to and the reason I go to events is there?s no better relationship than face-to-face. It?s great meeting people on camera and in the iTunes store but when you go to events and you can sit down and share a meal or drink with someone; you really get to know them. That?s why you should attend live events. You should network with people. Go to the local meet-ups in FastWebFormula. Go to industry events. Get face-to-face. From there you?ll find the strongest relationships that make you the most sales even though we?re in the internet marketing world and its great living at home and operating from your front garden. What you will find is when you go out and meet people, that?s when you can turn that internet marketing skill into cash because nobody out there really understands this like you do. So get out to an event and have some fun with it.

Please leave your comment next to this video, let me know how we?re going. Tell me which bits you enjoy and I?ll come back to you next week with a refined and improved version.

IDH mutation drives aggressive form of acute myeloid ... - Cancer Kick

Many patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) share a mutation in a gene called IDH. A University of Colorado Cancer Center study published this week in the journal Leukemia Lymphoma shows that this IDH mutation may be the first domino in a chain that leads to a more aggressive form of the disease.

?In fact, it?s not IDH itself that causes the problem,? says Dan Pollyea, MD, MS, investigator at the CU Cancer Center and assistant professor of hematologic oncology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. Rather, the mutation in IDH leads to exponentially higher blood levels of a protein called 2-hydroxyglutarate. This protein ?mucks up,? as Pollyea says, other genes that in turn promote cancer or fail to inhibit its growth.

The recent study shows that AML patients in remission who retain high levels of 2-hydroxyglutarate ? due universally to IDH mutation ? are much more likely to relapse than patients without similarly elevated levels.

The chain of causation includes another couple links.

?2-hydroxyglutarate reduces genes? ability to regulate themselves,? says Pollyea. Over time genes accumulate gunk in the form of methylation ? these methyl groups attach to silence parts of gene promoters, helping to decide which genes are and are not turned into proteins. Too much methylation is associated with many cancers, including AML. And 2-hydroxyglutarate turns off one of the body?s methylation-regulating genes.

So an IDH mutation leads to high 2-hydroxyglutarate, leads to bad gene regulation, leads to hypermethylation, leads to AML.

Policy: Northern Telecommunications Rehabilitation ?

Abstract

Internet in isolated communities, especially in the Canadian North, is expensive and limited. With the end of the Community Access Program, seed funding is now gone for a number of communities. Like the railway of the 19th century, the internet and modern telecommunications can link the country and make the distances between our citizens seem smaller. It is also a platform for entrepreneurship and job creation in small communities, not to mention an invaluable tool for education. To that end, the OYL will urge the Liberal Party of Canada to push for a Northern telecommunications strategy to expand infrastructure and improve access, both at community access points and in homes, and to provide training and education. This would be done in partnership with private industry, sourced through an open, transparent, and competitive bidding process.

Northern Canada Telecommunications Rehabilitation

Trevor LaForce | Ottawa West-Nepean Young Liberals

WHEREAS modern internet and communications technologies are powerful tools in education;

WHEREAS isolated communities in the Northern provinces and the territories, especially Nunavut, are frequently without access to broadband internet access;

WHEREAS the availability of internet and communications technology provides tools for entrepreneurship, new innovation, and job creation;

and WHEREAS the end of the Community Access Program will cause disruptions in staffing and services in Northern community access points;

BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Ontario Young Liberals urge the Liberal Party of Canada to adopt a renewed Northern telecommunications plan as part of its platform.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT such a telecommunications plan would involve an expansion of the available infrastructure and an affordable cost to communities and individuals for both community access points and in-home service.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT any contracts awarded for the expansion of northern telecommunications infrastructure be done via an open, transparent, competitive bidding process.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT this plan would provide funding to communities for training programs and grants for improved technical education in schools.

Italy passes market test after downgrade, concern persists

MILAN (Reuters) - Italian banks came to the rescue on Friday after the country suffered a ratings downgrade, but while Rome cut its three-year borrowing costs at auction, a rise in 10-year bond yields highlighted concern it may fall victim to Europe's debt crisis.

Moody's cut Italy's sovereign debt rating to Baa2 on Friday, citing doubts over Italy's long-term resolve to push through much-needed reforms and saying persistent worries about Spain and Greece were increasing its liquidity risks.

Solid domestic demand helped the Italian Treasury sell the top planned amount of 5.25 billion euros in bonds, paying less than a month ago on three-year paper.

"This was a challenging enough auction without the downgrade which makes the result look all the more impressive," said Spiro Sovereign Strategy Managing Director Nicholas Spiro.

"Once again, the Treasury was able to get its debt out the door, which right now is the overriding priority."

A new 2015 bond was sold at an average 4.65 percent rate, compared with the 5.30 percent Italy paid in June just before a cliffhanger Greek vote that had stoked fears of a euro exit and soon after an unconvincing first deal to help Spanish banks.

Italian banks' commitment to support Rome's refinancing of its 2 trillion euro debt and a broad domestic investor base have provided a safety net for Italy throughout the crisis.

Foreign investors' reluctance to hold Italian debt, however, keeps the yields under pressure. Benchmark 10-year-bond yields were up nine basis points around 6 percent while Italy's debt insurance costs also rose.

"Does it mean this puts a cap on the rise in Italian yield? Well, not really," said strategist Marc Ostwald at Monument Securities in London.

The U.S. rating agency lauded Prime Minister Mario Monti's commitment to fiscal reforms and structural consolidation. But warned it could again cut the country's marks if the next Italian government failed to continue along this path.

"The negative outlook reflects our view that risks to implementing these reforms remain substantial. Adding to them is the deteriorating macroeconomic environment, which increases austerity and reform fatigue among the population," it said.

"The political climate, particularly as the spring 2013 elections draw near, is also a source of implementation risk."

Analysts say political uncertainty ahead of elections is the main risk for Italy, where frustration with austerity measures and the country's weak and fragmented party system is stoking anti-European sentiment and has helped the meteoric rise of the populist Five Star Movement, led by comedian Beppe Grillo.

Respected technocrat Monti, who was called in last November to pull back Italy from the edge of the cliff and avoid a Greek-style debt crisis, has said he will stand down next year.

Three-times Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, who has kept a low profile since being forced out to leave room for Monti, announced this week he will return to frontline politics as the centre-right candidate, further muddling the political outlook.

He has taken an increasingly anti-European tone in recent public comments, criticizing Monti's austerity policies and openly questioning the value of remaining in the euro.

"Berlusconi seems to have picked up on the increased sense of frustration within the Italian society that the sacrifices being made by the country are not being sufficiently recognized by the markets and that part of the blame lies in the slow EU policy response," said BNP Paribas analyst Luigi Speranza.

Opinion polls suggest that a center-left bloc would win the elections and it is not yet clear whether Berlusconi's return to front line politics may alter the picture.

UNJUSTIFIED

The stark warning from Moody's, which comes as investors are already fretting about Spain's ability to mend its banking sector, knocked the euro down about a quarter of a cent overnight and initially sunk Italian bond futures.

The downgrade prompted angry reactions in Italian political and economic circles, with Italian Industry Minister Corrado Passera calling it "altogether unjustified and misleading."

The European Commission, which has so far mostly refrained from commenting on rating actions on individual euro zone countries, queried the timing of Moody's downgrade while backing the steps Italy has taken address its structural weaknesses.

"I do think one can legitimately and seriously question the timing of it, whether the timing was appropriate," Commission spokesman Simon O'Connor told a regular briefing.

But one senior Italian banker who declined to be named said the rating action could also provide a positive stimulus for a rapid response to the euro zone crisis: "It will create further pressure at EU level for a solution."

Italian magistrates are currently investigating for possible market manipulation past downgrade actions by the three main international rating agencies - Moody's, Standard & Poor's and Fitch - which triggered massive sell-offs of Italian assets.

The rating agencies deny vigorously any wrongdoing.

On Friday, Italian inflation-linked bonds sold off sharply as the downgrade would cause them to drop out of an important bond index. Linkers represent only a small portion of Italy's debt.

The yield difference between 10-year Italian government bonds and German Bunds remained at around 475 basis points, a high level that is frustrating the government in Rome and that Federico Ghizzoni, who heads of Italy's biggest bank by assets UniCredit, has called 'unsustainable'.

Monti this week did not rule out tapping euro zone bailout funds through a new bond-buying system to help ease Italy's borrowing costs. But Moody's said an Italian request for external assistance could trigger a further downgrade.

The country's economy is projected to contract by as much as 2 percent, dimming the prospect of implementing reforms.

Analysts estimate foreigners hold about one third of Italy's public debt, down from 40 percent a year ago. Foreign deposits at Italian banks have fallen 20 percent year on year.

"This is just Moody's opinion. I think our country, and our manufacturing system, is much stronger than the Moody's evaluation suggests," domestic business association head Giorgio Squinzi said.
